Fall 2024 Last Day to Add a Regular Session Class

29

January*

Spring 2024 Last Day to Add a Class (Regular Session)

*See Academic Calendar for Pre-Session Dates

No adds, including adds for mini session courses*, will be processed after midnight on the last day to add classes (see above for Academic Calendar dates) without written permission from the instructor of the class and the dean's office or advising center of your college. Late adds are by exception.

*Registration dates for mini session courses vary and are based on the duration of the class. Students can register for mini session classes after the dates above if the class has not started yet. Please email registrar@unl.edu with any questions.

The approval of all parties involved is not guaranteed. Financial aid recipients who process late course adds are encouraged to contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid as this could impact financial aid awards. If you are attempting to make a late section change, follow the procedures listed below under "Section/Credit Changes".

To secure permission to add a course late, complete the following steps in the order listed:

  1. Secure the instructor's written permission.
  2. Secure the approval of the dean's office or advising center of your academic college (for graduate students, contact graduate@unl.edu).
  3. Submit the approvals to the Office of the University Registrar at registrar@unl.edu with your UNL email account. Alternatively, your academic advisor or instructor can also submit these on your behalf via their UNL email to registrar@unl.edu.
  4. Late adds cannot be done on MyRED.
  5. Keep the response to your request as your evidence of the transaction. You will be billed for any required tuition and fees in the next billing from the Office of Student Accounts.

Graduate level students enrolled in online courses; contact the Graduate College for assistance adding courses. Undergraduate level students enrolled in online only courses, contact your College Dean’s Office for assistance with late adds.

Partial Refund

February*

Spring 2024 Last Day to Drop with Partial Refund (Regular Session)
*See Academic Calendar for Pre-Seesion Dates

Course drops may be processed through midnight on the last day to drop classes* for a full tuition refund (See above). However, courses dropped by the partial refund will be subject to the 25% tuition charge. See Academic Calendar or Cost of Withdrawal for deadlines for 75% and 50% refunds.

*Refund dates for mini session courses vary and are based on the duration of the class. Please contact Hukser Hub (402-472-2030 or huskerhub@unl.edu) with any questions.

Courses dropped on MyRED through midnight on the partial refund date will be removed from the student's transcript record, but retained for billing purposes. See Academic Calendar for dates and our Drop Tutorial for how to drop a class. Failure to attend classes does not constitute proper notification of a drop and you will continue to be responsible for the course or courses on your schedule until you formally drop the class.

A drop becomes effective for tuition and grade purposes on the date the transaction is processed on MyRED, or the "Schedule Adjustment Form" is processed at the Office of the University Registrar.

Note: If a student is found to have been academically dishonest in a course and drops the course, the instructor reserves the right to add the student's name to the Final Grade Roster and submit a final grade. In this case, the student will be held accountable for the full tuition for the course.

International Students:   Dropping below full-time status without prior approval of International Student and Scholar Office can have serious consequences and may affect your permission to remain in the USA.

alarm clock iconRegistration Cancellation

Once you register for classes, you will remain registered unless you take action to cancel your registration. If you wish to cancel your registration before the semester begins, you can access MyRED to drop all your classes before the last day to drop a class and receive a full refund to avoid tuition charges and grade liability. You can also notify:

Office of the University Registrar
registrar@unl.edu

Canceling a housing contract or not receiving expected financial aid will not affect your registration for classes. You must take action yourself.

The University may initiate cancellation of your registration if you fail to clear any existing "Registration Holds" on your record, or if you fail to maintain good academic standing.

Please Note: Departments reserve the right to cancel a course registration for a student who does not attend the first class meeting for the semester, or does not meet the prerequisites for the course. The space may be reassigned to another student applying for admission to the course. If dropped from the course by the department, you are still responsible for making sure the course is officially dropped from your registration in MyRED.

Notice to students on academic probation: If you register for classes during the registration period, you do so at your own risk. If your academic performance in the current semester/session should result in academic dismissal, your registration/classes will be canceled.

alarm clock iconSection/Credit Changes

Changing from one section to another section of the same course can be done on MyRED if the change is processed before midnight on the last day to add a class.

To process section changes after this date, permission with the signature of the instructor for the section to be added, and the approval of the dean's office or advising center of your academic college (for graduate students, contact graduate@unl.edu), must be submitted to the Office of the University Registrar, registrar@unl.edu.

You are free to change the number of credits on a variable credit course through MyRED until midnight the last day to add a course. After that date, the change must be processed by the Office of the University Registrar and may require special permission from your college.

alarm clock iconWithdrawals

Students (undergraduate and graduate) may withdraw from individual classes or from all classes, regardless of the circumstances, before midnight on the last day to withdraw from one or more courses for the session. Please see our Drop Tutorial for how to drop a class.

A grade of "W" will automatically be noted on the transcript for these courses. Any drops or withdrawals after the last day to withdraw are only granted for extraordinary circumstances by petition. Please contact your advisor or college to initiate a petition for late withdrawal.

Note: Deadlines for mini-session courses are prorated. Contact Husker Hub for specific dates for adding, dropping, and the withdrawal ("W") periods for mini sessions.

Non-Medical Petition for Late Withdrawal

Withdrawals after the deadline are only granted for extraordinary circumstances by petition. You should discuss late withdrawal eligibility and degree planning with your academic advisor. You may review the Petition for Late Withdrawal form in advance of meeting with your academic advisor to review your eligibility.

Note: If a student is found to have been academically dishonest in a course and drops the course, the instructor reserves the right to add the student's name to the Final Grade Roster and submit a final grade. In this case, the student will be held accountable for the full tuition for the course.

alarm clock iconWithdrawal from the University

All students should consider the following actions when deciding to withdraw from UNL:

  • Meet with your Academic Advisor.
  • Check with Husker Hub about scholarships and financial aid, request any necessary transcripts, and ensure your account balance has been paid off.
  • Check published deadlines on academic calendar to see if you are eligible for any tuition refunds.
  • Complete the course withdrawal process and update all personal contact information in MyRED. Questions? Contact Office of the University Registrar 402-472-3635 or your Academic Advisor.
  • If you live in a UNL residence hall, make an appointment to meet with your Residence Director to discuss your contract and officially check out of your room.
  • Sell back and/or return any textbooks that you purchased or rented. Questions? Contact the University Bookstore at 402-472-7300.
  • If you have items checked out from University Libraries, return any library books and equipment.
  • If you have a parking permit, turn in your parking permit at Parking and Transit Services for a possible refund or to cancel your payment obligation.
  • Ready to come back to the university?

Additional circumstances:

Dropping all of the classes you are enrolled in for a term, after the term begins, constitutes a withdrawal.

To withdraw from all courses, access MyRED, drop all of your classes or process a "Cancellation/Withdrawal Form" by visiting Husker Hub.

A withdrawal means that you are no longer enrolled for courses for the term at the University. Law students wishing to withdraw or drop classes should make their requests to their college dean's office.

A "W" will automatically be noted on your transcript for all dropped courses after the second week of classes (full-term courses).

Students (undergraduate and graduate) may withdraw from individual classes or from all classes, regardless of the circumstances, before midnight on the last day to withdraw. However, a student cannot escape a grade penalty imposed on them for academic dishonesty by withdrawing from a course, or by changing the course to the pass/no pass option.

Any drops or withdrawals after the last day to withdraw are for extraordinary circumstances and are by petition only. Undergraduate students should contact their college advising center or dean's office to obtain the "Petition for Late Withdrawal" form. Graduate students should contact Graduate Studies to obtain the petition form. If you are withdrawing due to medical reasons, contact the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at 402-472-3755.

The effective date of the withdrawal, which determines tuition and grade liabilities, is the date the transaction is processed on MyRED, or the "Cancellation/Withdrawal Form" is submitted to Husker Hub.

Only in cases of unforeseen extenuating circumstances may the effective date of the withdrawal be adjusted to the date of the occurrence of the event. For medical conditions, contact the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at 402-472-3755. For undergraduate students with circumstances that meet the criteria defined in the  Appeal for Enrollment Refund Adjustment, contact Husker Hub at huskerhub@unl.edu. Graduate students should contact  Graduate Studies.

If, after the last day to add classes (census date) in each term, you decide to drop a course or courses and/or withdraw from the University, it is highly recommended that you contact the  Husker Hub at 402-472-2030 before you act to discuss the possible need for repayment of federal aid and your eligibility for subsequent aid in future semesters.

alarm clock iconCost of Withdrawal

Only in the case of timely notification of unexpected hospitalization of the student, the death of a member of the student's immediate family living in the student's household, or University error may the effective date of the drop or withdrawal be adjusted to the date of the occurrence of the event. Proper documentation will be required to determine the adjusted effective date.

If after the last day to add courses for the Summer Session you decide to drop a course or courses and/or withdraw from the University, you should contact the Husker Hub, (402) 472-2030, before you act to discuss the possible need for repayment of federal aid and your eligibility for subsequent aid in future semesters.

money bag icon Payment of Financial Obligations

Failure by a student to pay a financial obligation to the University or any department, division, or agency thereof, will result in denial of readmission, denial of transcripts, denial of registration for ensuing terms, withholding of diplomas, and may result in an administrative cancellation of enrollment until the debt is paid in full. NOTE: See "Registration Hold/Service Indicators" under "Eligibility to Enroll" for the corresponding semester.

Past due accounts will be subject for assignment to a professional collection agency and collection costs may be added to the delinquent account.

In the event that your check is returned unpaid for insufficient or uncollected funds, we may re-present your check electronically. In the ordinary course of business, your check will not be provided to you with your bank statement.
