Upon request, the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) will provide degree and enrollment verifications to current students and alumni. Inquiries can be sent for processing via
fax at 402-472-0736, via email to registrar@unl.edu, or by mail to:

Please provide student's full and preferred name, NUID or SSN, date of birth, information required*, and delivery details (fax number, mail address, or email address).

Walk-ins are welcome at 107 Canfield Administration Building South between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

*Important Information:

FERPA regulates that only directory information can be released without written consent from the student. If the information you request is not in this list, OR you have requested non-disclosure on your directory information you will need to provide written consent. This can be done through MyRED (Tutorial) or through the FERPA release formDirectory information is as follows:

  • Student name
  • Year at the University
  • Dates of attendance
  • Academic college and major field of study
  • Enrollment status (undergraduate or graduate; full-time or part-time)
  • Participation in officially recognized activities and sports
  • Degrees, honors and awards received
  • Most recent educational agency or institution attended

Upon written request, the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) will provide notarized, authentications for University of Nebraska-Lincoln issued transcripts and diploma certifications, as well as enrollment and degree verifications.

  • A certified transcript is an official transcript authenticated by OUR and holds a notarized acknowledgement.
  • A certified diploma is a photocopy of the original diploma authenticated by OUR and holds a notarized acknowledgement. UNL does not retain copies of diplomas. If an original diploma is not available, see instructions on how to order a diploma replacement.
  • A certified copy of an Enrollment or Degree Verification is the original document authenticated by OUR and holds a notarized acknowledgement.

Cost for diploma and/or transcript certification is: $3.00 for the first document, $1.00 for each additional original of the same document; make check or money order payable to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. If mailing a request, please complete a Certification Request Form and allow 1-2 business days for processing once the request is received at our office. Notarized documents are sent via first class mail to the address provided on the request form, unless otherwise specified. If you require express mail, please provide a pre-paid address airbill or credit card information.

If planning ahead, graduates may request their diploma be certified for commencement date distribution. This process may save graduates errand time in the event they were to depart Lincoln immediately after graduation. The certification will be included inside the original diploma unless otherwise instructed.

On occasions, an Apostille or additional authentications are required. If so, please contact the Nebraska Secretary of State, Notary Division to obtain further information.

As a courtesy to UNL students and upon request, the OUR will forward certified documents to the Nebraska Secretary of State, Notary Division. This service is contingent upon the student contacting the Notary Division to obtain information and submitting to the OUR a letter of instruction to the Secretary of State along with a form of payment for their fees.

If you wish to have the OUR forward certified documents to the Secretary of State, please acknowledge so on the Notarization Request form.

Important Note:
Before a certification request can be processed, your student account must be clear from “Hold(s)”, check MyRED before proceeding with request. The OUR will not process requests until all “Hold(s)” are clear.
