Graduate Ceremony

May Graduate Commencement Information

Congratulations May Graduate and Professional degree candidates! If you fulfill all academic requirements, your degree will be awarded this semester. Contact Graduate Studies with any questions regarding degree requirements or clearance. Doctoral graduates intending to participate in the commencement ceremony should already have identified their ceremonial hooders to Eva Bachman at Graduate Studies. If you taught this term, you must report all changes to early degree grades for any courses directly to Graduation Services at (402) 472-3636 before you go to commencement, or no later than 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2015, if you are not participating in commencement.

Commencement Ceremony

Commencement is Friday, May 8, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. in the Pinnacle Bank Arena. Enter through the Graduates Only door and report to the check in area in the lobby on ground level at 2:00 p.m. Arena policy encourages everyone to arrive early and travel light, as you may be subject to search upon entry, which includes metal-detecting hand wands. Please see the Pinnacle Bank Arena website for prohibited items. You will not be allowed to carry any personal items into the ceremony with you. At check in you will receive a card printed with your name and a number. Do not lose this card. Hand your card to the assistant at the name-reader’s podium as you approach the stage. Graduating students are to remain for the entire ceremony, which will conclude by 5:00 p.m. We encourage families to stay for the entire ceremony as well out of respect for all graduates and their families.

Attendance Form

In early April you will receive email notification to complete your electronic Commencement Attendance Form in MyRED. This form lets us know what to do with your diploma. You must submit your electronic Commencement Attendance Form via MyRED by April 24 whether or not you are participating in commencement. If you want your name excluded from commencement publications, you must email Jennifer Verhein no later than April 24, requesting no publication, be sure to include your full name and NUID number in the body of your message.

Admission to Commencement

Your family and friends are cordially invited to attend and may sit in any non-reserved Arena bowl seats. Tickets are not required for the ceremony. Handicap seating for commencement guests is available on the concourse level of the Pinnacle Bank Arena in sections 106, 107, 110, 112, 114, 117 and 118. The commencement ceremony will be streamed live on the UNL website

University-issued official parking permits are required for Campus lots on commencement Friday. Direct all questions regarding on-campus parking to UNL Parking Services at (402) 472-1800. Paid parking is available in City of Lincoln garages.

Cap, Gowns and Hoods

All commencement participants are required to wear academic caps, gowns and hoods appropriate to the degree they are being awarded at this ceremony. Doctoral graduates will carry their hoods for the processional and be hooded as part of the ceremony. All other graduates must wear their hoods for the entire ceremony. Your tassel should remain on the right side of your cap until all degrees have been conferred, at which time the Chancellor will direct all graduates to move their tassel. You may order regalia in person or by mail from the University Bookstore, City Campus Union, or you may purchase it at the Wick Center on April 21 or 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.. See Student Cap & Gown Distribution Form for more information.

Each graduate will receive their diploma on stage from the Chancellor. Graduates will cross the stage alphabetically by degree. The card you receive at check-in identifies your diploma on the stage. Professional photographers will take pictures as you are handed your diploma and as you come down the ramp from the stage. Do not stop on the exit ramp. See Grad Images for photography information. All financial obligations to the University must be satisfied before your diploma will be released. Call the Office of Student Accounts, (402) 472-2887, with questions regarding your bill. The only way to receive your diploma on Friday is to participate in Commencement.

Graduates who choose not to participate in Commencement may receive their diploma as follows:
