May Undergraduate Commencement Information
Commencement is Saturday, May 7, 2016, 9:30 a.m. at the Pinnacle Bank Arena. Enter through the Graduates Only door and report to the check in area in the lobby on ground level at 8:30 a.m. Arena policy encourages everyone to arrive early and travel light, as you may be subject to search upon entry, which includes metal-detecting hand wands. Please see the Pinnacle Bank Arena website for prohibited items. You will not be allowed to carry any personal items into the ceremony with you. At check in, you will receive a card printed with your name and a number. Do not lose this card. Graduating students are to remain for the entire ceremony, which will conclude by approximately 12:00 noon. We encourage families to stay for the entire ceremony as well out of respect for all graduates and their families.
In mid-April you will receive email notification to complete your electronic Commencement Attendance Form and graduation surveys in MyRED. The Attendance Form lets us know what to do with your diploma. You must submit your electronic Commencement Attendance Form via MyRED whether or not you are participating in commencement.
Admission to Commencement
Your family and friends are cordially invited to attend and may sit in any non-reserved Arena bowl seats. Tickets are not required for the ceremony. Handicap seating for commencement guests is available on the concourse level of the Pinnacle Bank Arena in sections 106, 107, 110, 112, 114, 117 and 118. The commencement ceremony will be streamed live on the UNL website www.unl.edu.
Campus parking lots are available without charge or permit on commencement Saturday. City Garages are available for a flat fee.
Cap & Gowns
All participants are required to wear academic caps and gowns appropriate to the degree they are being awarded at commencement. Your tassel should remain on the right side of your cap until all degrees have been conferred, at which time the Chancellor will direct all graduates to move their tassel. You may purchase your required regalia at the Wick Alumni Center's Gradfest or you may order regalia in person or by mail from the University Bookstore, City Campus Union.
DiplomasEach graduate will receive their diploma on stage from a College Dean. Graduates will cross the stage alphabetically by College. The card you receive at check-in identifies your diploma on the stage. Professional photographers will take pictures as you are handed your diploma and as you come down the ramp from the stage. Do not stop on the exit ramp. All financial obligations to the University must be satisfied before your diploma will be released. Call the Office of Student Accounts, (402) 472-2887, with questions regarding your bill.
Graduates who choose not to participate in Commencement may receive their diploma as follows:
1. Pick up at the Pinnacle Bank Arena diploma room between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on graduation day. Enter the Graduates Only door and bring your photo ID with you.
2. By mail as requested on your electronic Commencement Attendance Form. Diplomas will be mailed the week following Commencement. If you need your diploma mailed outside the United States, you must pay a $15.00 fee at Graduation Services, 109 Canfield Administration Building South, before graduation..
3. Pick up at the Graduation Services Office, 109 Canfield Administration Building South, beginning the Monday following Commencement. Bring your photo ID with you.
Graduates with Disabilities
Graduates with disabilities are welcome and should notify Graduation Services at (402) 472-3636, or via email, to allow time to establish reasonable accommodations. Also please note your need for accommodations on your electronic Commencement Attendance Form available in MyRED. Disabled Parking is available in Campus lots and in marked spaces in the Haymarket area.
Change in Plans
Please call the Graduation Services Office at (402) 472-3636 as soon as you determine you are unable to complete your requirements for graduation this semester, or if you change your mind about participating in commencement.
