UTILIZING FRAMER

Framer How To

The Framer tool allows the CLSS editor to view courses from previous instances in CLSS. Additional tools are explained below.

The Framer button is located on the scheduling unit page in the top right corner with the other red buttons. For more information on the other buttons, please see our “View By and Filtering Options” tutorial.

Once you click on the Framer button, it will take you to a new page that looks like this.

On the top right of the page, are the familiar red buttons – View, Filter, and Export. The rest of the page displays a list of courses and two terms which defaults to the newest terms. There is an arrow pointing left next to the terms. The default View setting gives the basic information, showing how many of what type of sections were offered in that term and the number enrolled for them.

To view older terms on this page, you can click the arrow button to the left of the terms listed. Once navigating to the previous term, another arrow will appear on the right to allowing to move to newer terms. Older terms that have past will have an (H) next to them. This means they are Historical Instances that are no longer able to be edited.

More information can be added to the page by clicking View. When you click on it, it will give a few different options.

The Summary option is the default option. Choosing Standard, will add more class information. It will now list the section numbers, the instructor assigned to the course, and will show the number of enrolled students for that section.

Choosing Detail, will bring up even more detailed class information. It will now display the meeting pattern for each section in addition to the information listed under Standard.

Customize allows multiple terms (Instances) that are not consecutive to display and if 2 or 3 columns are desired.

The Filter button does the same as it does on all the other pages of CLSS. For more information, see View By and Filtering Options tutorial.

The Export button allows to export the information on this page. Click Export, for options to export the data.

All this information can be viewed for a single instructor. Each instructor’s name is a link. Clicking on the link will bring up a new tab comparable to the framer page, but instead of being for a scheduling unit, it will be for that specific instructor. This is a helpful view to see when an instructor has taught a class.

Another function that Framer allows is to create sections from the page. On a current term, hover over the sections for a green Add Section button to appear. Clicking on the button will bring up the section editing window for that course and allow input of the necessary information without leaving the Framer page.

For more information on how to create a new section, see documentation on the CLSS website.

On a previous term that has been archived [(H) symbol next to the term], it is possible to copy a previous section into a new term.  To do this, navigate to the appropriate term and hover over the section to copy until it is highlighted in red.

Once it is red, click the arrow in the upper right corner of the box. A pop-up box will appear. Select the active term to copy the class information.

Once the term is selected, click Accept and it will bring up the section editing window.  Some of the information is copied from the previous section – it will include the meeting pattern dates/times, instructor, enrollment caps, and instruction information. Proceed as normal to create the new section.
