Full-Time/Part-Time Student Status
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduates must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours to be classified as full-time students. Courses with a grade of "I" (Incomplete) from a prior term cannot be used to determine full-time status for the current term.
Graduate Students
Graduate students requiring certification as full-time must be enrolled for at least 9 credit hours during an academic semester and at least 9 credit hours during summer sessions, whether or not the student holds a graduate assistantship.
With approval of the Dean of Graduate Studies, students in a thesis-option master's degree program (i.e., Option I) or candidates for doctoral degrees, registered for fewer than the minimum hours required for a full program may be granted full-time status provided they are not employed more than 20 hours per week (half-time).
Graduate students must be admitted to a degree program in the Graduate College to be awarded federal financial aid.
To be eligible to utilize the full-time certification, the graduate students must have been registered at least half-time (i.e., at least 5 credits) in the fall and spring terms prior to the initiation of the full-time certification status.
Master's students may utilize the full-time certification no longer than 12 months. Doctoral candidates may utilize the full-time certification no longer than 24 months.

Full-Time Status for International Students
International students are to maintain full-time status. Financial aid is awarded on the assumption that students enroll full-time each semester (minimum of 12 credits for undergraduates and 9 credits for graduate students).
Enrollment status is determined for the purpose of financial aid by the number of credits in which each student is enrolled on the last day to add classes (census date) each semester. Aid may be reduced or canceled if a student is not enrolled full-time on census date.

Students enrolled for 6 credit hours or less are excluded from health services unless they make special arrangements. They can either pay the non-subsidized service rates or pay the health services fee and pay the subsidized rates.
Residency
Establishing residence for tuition and fee assessment purposes is not automatic. To apply for residence for tuition payment purposes, undergraduate students visit the Office of Admissions and graduate students visit the Office of Graduate Studies.
You must obtain an application well in advance of the term for which you wish to be considered. Applications will be accepted 60 days prior to the first day of classes for the term for which residence is sought. The deadline to apply (including the submission of all support documentation) is the end of the third week of classes.
