May 2020 Graduate Commencement Information
Graduate Commencement Ceremony is Friday, May 8, 2020, at 3 p.m. at the Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Enter through the Graduates Only door and report to the check in area in the lobby on ground level at 1:30 p.m. Graduates must check in by 2:30 p.m. in order to be lined up and ready for the start of the procession into the arena.
Arena policy encourages everyone to arrive early and travel light, as you may be subject to search upon entry, which includes metal-detecting hand wands. Please see the Pinnacle Bank Arena website for prohibited items and clear bag policy. You will not be allowed to carry any personal items into the ceremony with you. At check in, you will receive a card printed with your name and a number. Do not lose this card. Graduating students are to remain for the entire ceremony, which will conclude by approximately 5 p.m. We encourage families to stay for the entire ceremony out of respect for all graduates and their families.
In April you will receive email notification to complete your electronic Commencement Attendance Form and graduation surveys in MyRED. The Attendance Form lets us know what to do with your diploma. You must submit your electronic Commencement Attendance Form via MyRED whether or not you are participating in commencement.
Your family and friends are cordially invited to attend and may sit in any non-reserved Arena bowl seats. Tickets are not required for the ceremony. Handicap seating for commencement guests is available on the concourse level of the Pinnacle Bank Arena in sections 106, 107, 110, 112, 114, 117 and 118. The commencement ceremony will be streamed live on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln website www.unl.edu
University-issued official parking permits are required for Campus lots on commencement Friday. Direct all questions regarding on-campus parking to UNL Parking Services at (402) 472-1800. Paid parking is available in City of Lincoln garages.
Pre-order your cap/gown by March 17, 2020 at herff.ly/nebraska. You will pay for it when you pick it up at GradFest or at the University Bookstore after GradFest. GradFest is held at the Wick Alumni Center (1520 R Street) Apri1 21 and 22. If you are unable to attend GradFest or pick up your regalia in the Bookstore, please use this form. All regalia has been changed from previous styles, so please contact the University Bookstore at 402-472-7332 if you have specific questions.
Each doctoral graduate will receive their diploma on stage from the Chancellor. Graduates will cross the stage alphabetically by degree. The card you receive at check-in identifies your diploma on the stage. Each masters graduate will receive their diploma on stage from an academic dean. The card you receive at check-in identifies your diploma on the stage. Professional photographers will take pictures as you are handed your diploma and as you come down the ramp from the stage. Do not stop on the exit ramp. All financial obligations to the University must be satisfied before your diploma will be released. Call the Office of Student Accounts, (402) 472-2887, with questions regarding your bill. The only way to receive your diploma on Friday is to participate in Commencement.
Graduates who choose not to participate in Commencement may receive their diploma as follows:
- By mail as requested on your electronic Commencement Attendance Form. Diplomas will be mailed the week following Commencement. If you need your diploma mailed outside the United States, you must pay a $15.00 fee at the Office of the University Registrar, 100 Neihardt Residential Center, before graduation.
- Pick up at the Husker Hub, 130 Louise Pound Hall, beginning the Monday following Commencement. Bring your photo ID with you.
Graduates with disabilities (vision, hearing, walking/wheelchair, service dogs) are welcome and should notify Graduation Services at (402) 472-3635 ext. 3, or via email, to allow time to establish reasonable accommodations. Also please note your need for accommodations on your electronic Commencement Attendance Form available in MyRED. Disabled Parking is available in Campus lots and in marked spaces in the Haymarket area.
Please call the Graduation Services Office at (402) 472-3635 ext. 3 as soon as you determine you are unable to complete your requirements for graduation for this semester, or if you change your mind about participating in the Commencement ceremony.
