Degree and Enrollment Verification

A verification is a signed, official document on letterhead that confirms enrollment dates, full-time/part-time enrollment status, information about major and any degrees earned at that time. Other information is considered additional or specialized.

Verifications are often used for scholarship applications, loan deferments, insurance applications, jury duty or other processes where student enrollment needs to be verified.

Current students, former students, alumni, and employers seeking verification of enrollment or degrees from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln can access these services through the National Student Clearinghouse or the Office of the University Registrar. Students with access to MyRED can also request electronic or paper verification through the MyRED Student Dashboard.

Certified copies of transcripts, diplomas, and verifications are available upon request, and Apostille services can be arranged for international use. Please ensure there are no outstanding holds on your student account before requesting certified copies.

  • Enrollment status (undergraduate or graduate; full-time or part-time)

  • Most recent educational agency or institution attended

Verification Ordering FAQs

Can I verify student information over the phone?

If a student does not have a restriction on their information, we are able to verify directory information over the phone. Non-directory information requires a release signed by the student and submitted to us. Verification of non-directory information will be done in writing.

How do I open an electronic verification?

The National Student Clearing House provides information on how to open an electronic verification.

How do I determine if the electronic verification is authentic?

Each electronic verification has a blue ribbon certifying that the document is authentic and unaltered. If a verification is altered, the blue ribbon is not present.

What is the access duration to download an electronic verification?

Electronic verifications can be accessed for up to 30 days from time of delivery.

Can I change the recipient of a verification after the order has been placed?

No, once the order has been placed, the recipient's name, address, email address, etc. cannot be changed. Remember to check the information prior to submitting an order. We do not offer refunds for errors made while ordering.

Can I include an attachment with my order?

You can upload an attachment with your electronic verification order. If you need us to review it, you can select to have it sent with review. If you want a paper version of your verification with an attachment, you will need to contact us directly at registrar@unl.edu.

It says I can’t be found in the system when placing an order for an electronic verification, but I attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and not another University of Nebraska school (Kearney, Medical Center, Omaha).

You can continue to place the request after verifying your information is correct and click “No” where it asks you if you want to update your personal information. It will then be manually reviewed by the Registrar Office. The Registrar Office will use the email you provided when you ordered if there are any questions or issues. Otherwise, after our review is complete, you will receive an email confirmation (or text if you opted in for such) when the order is delivered to the recipient.

I am unable to see the verification key on an electronic verification.

The verification key should be included on the file as an attachment. You can open the Attachments panel in Adobe Reader by choosing View > Show/Hide > Navigation Panes > Attachments.
