Degree Audit - Course Search
As you are working in a student’s degree audit, you have several options for finding classes that fulfill a requirement. One of the most convenient is using Class Search.
Getting to the Search
In the degree audit, to find lists of classes that fulfill a requirement, hover over the requirement name and a search glass will appear.
Click on the search glass and the Course Search pane will appear on the right side of the screen.
The Course Search pane provides multiple ways to target the type of class your student wants to take for a requirement.
Filters & Descriptions
There are several filters available for you to utilize. You will notice that by clicking on the search glass next to a specific degree requirement in the degree audit, some filters will already be applied.
For example, clicking on the search glass below, next to the Additional Psychology Option Courses, will pull up 14 courses that will fulfill that requirement.
The above Course Search example already has the "Additional Psychology Option Courses" filter automatically applied because the search glass next to that requirement was clicked. In addition, the "at UNL" and "Catalog Level: Undergraduate" filters are always applied for undergraduate students. You can see there are 14 course options available to count towards this requirement.
Keywords
Typing into the keywords box will further narrow the list of courses. This can be a course code or any word in the course name.
Only with cleared prerequisites
The "Only with cleared prerequisites: checkbox compares the student’s prerequisite courses or major/program to the prerequisites listed on a course. This filters out courses the student has not met the course or major prerequisite.
“Only with cleared prerequisites” can filter for:
- Prerequisite courses completed
- Major/minor
“Only with cleared prerequisites” cannot filter for:
- Math Placement
- Class Standing (freshman, sophomore, etc.)
- Membership in University Honors Program
- Number of credit hours completed
- Membership in a specific college
Semesters
Filtering for a specific semester will show you courses likely to be offered in that semester.
If the schedule is published, the course list will populate from courses officially in the course schedule for that semester.
If the course schedule is not published, Stellic uses an algorithm to identify courses likely to be offered in a future semester based on past offerings.
You can further filter for sessions, or “Semester Blocks,” within a specific semester.
Semester Sub-Filters
Choosing a semester causes three additional filters to appear:
- Section
- Availability
- Instruction Mode
Counts for
The "Counts for" filter shows courses that count twards specific Academic Program requirements. This filter will already be applied and will appear in blue as a selected filter. You can change it by selecting the search glass on a different requirement or by clicking the "Counts for" filter at the top of the Course Search panel.
Instructor
The "Instructor" filter is best used in conjunction with the "Semesters" filter and a specific semester on a published course schedule. Otherwise, Stellic provides a history of all the courses a professor taught.
Offered by
This allows filtering by a Colleges offering courses that fulfill a requirement. For example, if you want to find an ACE 8 course through the College of Business, you could filter for ACE 8 courses offered in that College:
Attributes
All course attributes are listed on Tags and Attributes | Office of the University Registrar | Nebraska. Common course attributes are ACE, Honors course, and Experiential Learning. This is additionally how one can find Low Cost and Inclusive Access Material courses.
This will filter to those courses that fulfill the requirement.
More filters
"More filters" gives the additional options to filter for campus and catalog level (Undergraduate, Graduate, etc).
Distance delivery in the "Teach Locations" filter will find any course ever taught online. To find a course taught online in a specific semester, use the "Semesters" filter and set the "Instruction Mode" filter to Online Distance Class or Online Class On-Campus Testing.
