When registering for classes, students can check the course delivery method to find out if the class will be held in-person, online or via web conferencing by searching "Mode of Instruction" in the Class Search or "Instruction Mode" in the Enrollment Scheduler. Students can also review the course attributes for days, times, locations, ACE designations and related section information.
During spring pre-sessions and summer sessions, instructors may employ innovative course design that includes more than one delivery mode. Courses that use a blended instruction design will be listed as the delivery mode that best fits the majority of the course. Any course with in-person requirements will be listed as In-Person. Students should check the 'Course Notes' section for any course requirements that may be different from the primary instruction mode.
In-Person
In-Person courses are delivered in a physical classroom or location where the instructors and students interact on scheduled days and times. Students are expected to attend in-person courses at scheduled meeting times unless they have approved accommodation or have an instructor-approved absence.
Field courses are considered In-Person courses with instruction taking place at another physical location such as an internship setting, student teaching location or outdoor laboratory.

Online
Online courses are designed to allow students to move forward independently through learning modules without a traditional classroom experience and provide maximum flexibility for a student’s schedule.
Course content is usually fully developed and available before the semester starts, and students follow specific deadlines for engagement and completion of assignments, exams and projects.
Online courses that require testing at the on-campus Digital Learning Commons are indicated as a mode of instruction in MyRED.

Web Conferencing
Web Conferencing courses use a web-based video conferencing platform like Zoom where the instructor and students can interact with each other on scheduled days and times with a real-time, remote classroom experience.
These courses may be supplemented with other components, including independent learning modules such as those found in traditional online course offerings or optional in-person opportunities.
Students are expected to attend web conferencing classes at scheduled meeting times unless they have an instructor-approved absence.
Web Conferencing courses are charged the In-Person tuition rate and University Program and Facilities Fee (UPFF).

How to Plan Your Schedule
The Enrollment Scheduler in MyRED can help students plan their schedules. Course delivery methods, along with other class attributes such as days, times and locations, are available within the system.
When students mix course delivery formats between In-Person/Web Conferencing courses and Online courses during a semester or across the summer sessions, they will have their combined University Program and Facilities Fee (UPFF) and Online Course Fee capped. The maximum charge will be the full UPFF plus one 3-credit hour online course. Learn more about the Online Course Fee Cap.
